There's a lot going on underground ... And this experiment gives kids the opportunity to watch it all: roots springing up or worms paving their way through the earth and, in doing so, airing the latter thoroughly. Just fill the box with soil, add seeds (e.g. beans) or worms (from the compost) and - most importantly - darken it with the light protective cover. Only in the dark the roots and tunnels of the worms will reach to the inner plastic wall. The protective cover should only be removed for the purpose of observation.
